Quick update...

Nate and I are spending the night in the hospital so he can get a blood transfusion. Hopefully we'll be released in the morning with no problems. Today was quite an ordeal. We went to the doctor's office at 9 a.m., and I was fully expecting him to be fine because (although he's a little pale) he is alert for a lot of the day and is eating and screaming just fine.

When Caleb was anemic he didn't move or eat or cry. That's how he earned the name "Noodle," because he just laid there all floppy like a little wet noodle.

Nate, however, hides his anemia well. So we found out he was "severely but not critically" anemic and off we were sent to the hospital. I got to the first hospital downtown, where the pediatrician had told us to go because they were expecting us. They were, however, not expecting us.

We were then sent to St. Luke's South in Overland Park, but given some ridiculous Mapquest directions that took me ridiculously out of the way. They told me it would take 15 minutes to get from one hospital to another. An hour and one Diet Coke stop later, we arrived at the correct hospital and got admitted. Six hours and seven attempts at an IV after that, we're still waiting for the blood to arrive from the blood bank. In their defense, it takes a long time to get blood for an infant because they have to go through special steps to make sure it's extra clean.

On the up-side, they have a private room for me to stay in, and a kitchen stocked with REAL Diet Coke, not Shasta brand diet cola. This is a big plus for me. And, they were able to start Nate's IV finally. I sent a text to a friend saying they were having difficulty, she wrote back to say she and her mom had prayed for Nate's IV right as the nurse said, "Whooppee, I got it!" I know, I know, I should have prayed on the first attempt.
