Celebrations are weird here.

This week we celebrated our neighbor's birthday by covering her with flour, smashing eggs on her, then making a lovely paste in her hair with water. One more reason not to like getting older, I guess!! Only Nicky, her roommate was brave enough to take a picture with her, all the other locals hid for (literally!) 20 minutes until Joye went in to take a shower. They were afraid she'd hug them and get them dirty, then they wouldn't be able to go to karaoke night! bn Kelly and Matt missed it because they were starting school. Nate was not amused. Caleb had the best time of all- he got to smash eggs, play in the street, and squirt Joye in the head with the hose. Sadly, being the toddler that he is, he didn't know when to stop and was extremely disappointed when later he got in trouble for smashing eggs in the kitchen. I promised to smash eggs on him for his birthday, and he seemed happy with my proposal.

In other news, Kelly and Matt have so much homework at school that they are pretty much busy with that all the time. Kelly is in 2 science classes and advanced composition. Plus she has to teach herself Algebra, since the ninth graders here have all finished Algebra and are currently studying Geometry. She didn't want the advanced composition class but the counselor insisted, saying the regular English class was geared more toward ESL students than native speakers. This class is a huge jump from what she was studying, and I think she'd rather be with the ESL kids! I'm happy to see her reading good books and being challenged, but she doesn't agree.
Matt is also experiencing an increase in workload but he's handling it well. It cuts into his video game time, but he'll get over it. He's in a music class that he does NOT love, but he dominates the Koreans in softball for gym, so that makes him feel a little better, I think.
Caleb is putting the terrible in Terrible Twos, but I'm trying to cut him some slack since we just moved across the world and all. He's testing out his limits. The newest one is sleeping- he doesn't like it. And avoids it at all costs. Probably because Nate is sleeping in his crib.
Nate is sleeping in a crib!! He's been in our bed because we needed the crib (Caleb calls it 'the cage') to get Caleb to sleep. The last few nights he's been in is own bed, and sometimes sleeping all night. Sometimes he has to cry it out but I'm hoping he'll get over that soon. He's crawling, although not all over. He basically likes to crawl to the edge of his foam mat, push his butt up in the air, and fall on his face. He makes sure to get to the edge so that when his head hits the floor he hits tile instead of foam. I bought more foam mat pieces to solve this problem, but it just made him crawl further before pushing his butt up in the air. Weirdo. He's pretty stinking cute, though, I think we'll keep him. Our helper likes him a lot- she carries him around as much as possible and calls him Neek. Close enough, I guess.
