It wasn't fun, but it's over. I still have a headache, but it's a small price to pay for a) a healthy baby, and b) the sedative they gave me to make the whole procedure a little easier. To sum it up, there were about 15 people in the operating room. They worked for an hour to get the baby to move his little foot so they could put the needle in and sample his blood. That was where the sedative came in handy, because it was not fun. Then they numbed my stomach and put a HUGE needle through my uterus and into the umbilical cord to sample the baby's blood. They also gave the baby a sedative so he didn't move during the procedures. He was anemic (hemoglobin 8.5, so not that bad) so they transfused a little blood and then retested in a few minutes and he was 13.5, so we called it a day! I spent 4 hours waiting for the sedative to wear off and the baby to move, then we came home. And that's how it went down.
I will probably have to do another one in two weeks, and maybe one more before I deliver. They'll do an amniocentesis at 36 weeks (I'm 31.5 now) to see if the baby's lungs are mature enough, and if they are then they'll induce at that time. So if that works out, our kids will all have their birthdays within a week of each other!! Now you know about my fun day...
